What is Vasant Panchami & Saraswati Pooja?

Vasant means Spring & ‘Panchami’ means fifth day. In Northern India, the onsaught of Spring season brings fresh blooming of flowers especially, the mustard flowers. That is why the colours Yellow or bright Orange hold importantce on this festival.

It is also the day we pray to the Goddess Saraswati the supreme repository of all learning. She represents the union of power and intelligence from which the entire creation arises. She is the Goddess of the Vedas, scriptures, dancing, musical power and poetry. Vasant Panchami is treated by celebrants as Saraswati’s birthday. People worship Goddess Saraswati to attain enlightenment through knowledge and to rid themselves of lethargy, sluggishness and ignorance.

Saraswati Pooja is performed to invoke the blessings of Saraswati. Students pray to her to achieve success in their studies and writing instruments like pen, pencil, eraser, should be placed in the puja altar to be filled with the auspicious vibrations of prayer and chanting.
