Mr. Partha Satpathy

Ambassador Partha Satpathy joined the Indian Foreign Service in August 1990.

Before joining as Ambassador of India to Hungary in March 2022, Ambassador Satpathy served as Ambassador of India to Ukraine from 2018 to 2022. Prior to that he served as Head of Division (Latin America, Caribbean Division & States Division) in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

Mr. Satpathy has also served as Ambassador of India to the Republic of Senegal with concurrent accreditation to the Republic of Cape Verde, Republic of Guinea Bissau and High Commissioner of India to the Republic of The Gambia from 2012-2015. He has served in the Indian Embassies in Moscow, Vienna, Brasilia and Lisbon and worked in the UN and Latin America Divisions of the Ministry of External Affairs. Mr. Satpathy has served as Minister in the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations Offices in Geneva coordinating multilateral diplomacy issues in the areas of Globalization, Health, International labour issues, climate change, migration issues, hazardous waste management, environmental and conservation diplomacy issues.

Ambassador has recently moved from his previous assignment from Ukraine to Hungary and coordinated the major evacuation exercise entitled “Operation Ganga” which involved evacuating a large number of Indians and Indian students with the commencement of conflict there. Over 22500 individuals were evacuated from multiple locations across Ukraine back to India.

Mr. Satpathy has a degree in B.Sc. Physics, with a Masters in Business Administration from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad followed by a Masters in Human Rights and International Law from the Human Rights Centre in Essex, UK. His interests are in the areas of Business and Human Rights, Corporate Social Responsibilities, Multilateral Diplomacy, Strategic Dynamics in the BRICS & IBSA regions and Intellectual Property rights. He enjoys outdoor sports activities including golf and cricket.
