Lothal, a prominent city of the ancient Indus Valley civilization dating to 2400 BC, houses the oldest man-made dockyard- over 5000 years old.
A world class National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) is being setup as a befitting tribute to the historical importance of Lothal and develop it into a place of extraordinary and unparalleled maritime heritage, which will serve as an international tourist destination.

Development  of NMHC is being carried out in close coordination between state governments,  private parties, NGOs, and foreign governments.  The Government of Gujarat has provided 375 acres of land in village Saragwada, Lothal for constructing this complex.  Indian Port Rail & Ropeway Corporation Limited  (IPRCL) is the nodal agency for this project.
